Default Help with pics

I'm looking at this '87 944 Turbo available on the web and noticed in this driver side shot two key slots - one in the handle and one on the rear qtr panel. Is that common? What is that second key slot used for?

Also, any idea what the dash alert is in the second pic - can't make it out.

Thanks, Mike

The second key slot is for the car alarm. My 88 N/A has it but I've never been able to use it. The PO told me he gave me the key, but the supposed key won't engage/disengage the alarm so who knows. But I'm not sure how common/uncommon is it but I'm pretty sure most 944s do not have it. I've only seen a handful of 944s with the alarm slot, but as far as the exact figures from the factory I have no clue. As far as the dash alert, all the dash alerts and lights come on when you turn the key to position 2 in the ignition. The owner obviously just turned the key real quick to take the picture and thats why everything is lit up. Looks like a great 951 though, good luck Mike.

Hello, The lock just aft of the door handle is the Alarm Set Key hole. Most of the keys have all been lost over the years, but you can rekey to the ignition key. You can do a Search on here, just type in Alarm Key or a combination of words dealing with rekeyed locks. The Idiot Light is on because the key is turned on. It tells you to look at your gages to see if there is anything wrong, low oil pressure, alternator not putting out, etc..

Dang, beat me typing.

Cheers,
Larry

The light that is on is the front brake pad light. It tells you when to replace the pads. If you don't replace the sensor, the light will stay on.
