Hard time priming oil pump after engine rebuild?
Hello
I'm having a problem priming my 83 944 oil pump after engine rebuild.
Tried alot of defferent methods to prime the pump, and no joy at priming the pump with oil.
Should it be this hard to prime, or is there a better, easier way to prime the oil pump on the engine, installed in the car!
Help any idea's

Remove the oil filter and pour 1/2 quart of oil equally into each passage. Rotate the motor 1/4 rotation in reverse, then 4 rotations forward. This should help. Upon start up, you should have oil pressure in a matter of moments.
If not, I would start pointing the finger to your oil pressure relief valve. There has been a lot of disussion lately about it. A lot of people are coming off rebuilds or they have been sitting for a while. Lots of oil pressure problems.
Welcome to Rennlist, by the way, and let us know how it goes.

Don't panic - it took almost 38 SECONDS to see oil pressure (the smallest needle flicker) on the gauge when I did one of my 951 motors a year ago.
I was terrified, but all is well.
