Red face starter problems

My 1984 944 starter does not turn over the engine when I turn the key over. I try it over and it turns over after a while or after turning the key to the off and back to start position, it has happened when the engine is hot or cold, I believe the battery is good. My plan is to take out the starter and solenoid and clean them. If I have to replace the starter, can anyone direct me to where I can purchase a reasonable rebuilt starter.

The starter is easy to remove, if it hasn't been off for awhile then put some penetrating oil on the two bolts that hold it on (17mm I believe).

Buy a starter here:

Could be your ignition switch...

check to make sure the starter is getting power while you're down there...

There's no need to buy a new starter.Rebuild kits are available.I bought one, it cost only couple of €/$.It's rather easy to do by yourself. The whole "project" took only about two hours.

19mm and you'll need a box end wrench. Not enough room to get a socket on the right bolt.
