Question Found an 87 1/2 S Model with 16 valve Ventilator

This is just a, I hope an easy question, I found an 87 1/2 S Model with 16 valve Ventilator. What is the Ventilator for? Isn't it just the name given to an S/16 valve engine whenit came out, is it just extra badgeing on an 944S, or does the car actually have a better setup? I have seen a cabrio with Ventilator on the side, but I didn't get a chance to talk with the owner. Please help I have searched online and have only found sites in German and this is beginning to bother me. Thanks

afaik, ventilator means valve.

So a "16 ventilator" car would be a 16 valve. And 944Ss have 16 valve heads.

My German sucks almost as bad as my lousy aging memory, but I think "Ventilator" (sp?) is German for valve... thus 16 Ventilator would simply be 16 valve...

Jim, semi-non-fluent in them furrin' languages...

The cab would, of course, be an S2.

(nitpick...)

yes, it's probably spelled as "ventiler" - at least that's how they say it at the factory

(sorry for the poor image)

BTW, is that the same font they use in the "carrera" script? Any idea where I could download it..?

"Ventilier" is German for valve. The rare ones are the 944S without rub strip.

Das Ventil means valve
Die Ventile means valves
16 Ventiler means something like "the 16 Valver"

Rub strip?

How do you know if it's an 87 or 87 1/2 ?

First I've heard of that.

If it's an '87, it can't be a factory cabrio: they only made S2's at cabrios, and they came out in '89.

The 87-88 944S (available as coupe only) is a 2.5l 16v powerplant, whereas the 89-91 944S2 (coupe and cabrio) is a 3.0 16v powerplant.
