87 944s block question.
Ok, i'm trying to find out what head gasket kit to purchase and the engine code has thrown me in a loop.

My engine code is
m44/07 it has a 16v head for the S version though. what i see listed on the internet for the S the code should be m44/40. Is it just me or is it a different block? I'm not the original owner. so the history of the car is questionable.
any help would be appreciated.
