Question Cookie Cutter Refinishing

I'm in the process of refinishing a set of cookie cutters. On the rims of two of the wheels there was a lot of damage to the clear coat and what appears to be oxidation of the aluminum. (The black centers of all four wheels look fine.) I have wet sanded much of these rims, but I am having difficulty getting these bad spots down to shiny aluminum. Perhaps I can keep on sanding, but I think that if I spray clear coat on the rims that they will still have blemishes. A friend of mine suggested that I sand to a smooth finish, prime, spray with an aluminum colored paint, then do clear coat.

Any opinions?

The archives should have a lot on this topic. I did a set of cookies with excellent results. You really need to strip the clear coat (outer rim only) with a quality paint stripper. Then simply smooth and polish out the rim. If you use Mother's polish periodically they will look a lot better (IMO) than new. I'll try to post a picture later fyi...
