I'm going to. Why do you ask?
I have been looking for a direct replacement and knowing where I can get them is a big help.
Thanks

No worries. Stefan said he has them in stock. Good luck.

Update.

As it happens, Stefan, while being a very nice guy, does not seem to know as much about our cars as he thinks he knows.

The speakers mentioned in this thread are NOT a drop in replacement for our cars. They do fit depth wise but the tweeter extends too far out to use the oem speaker cover. My apologies if anyone was misled by this thread.

There is a chance that the speaker grilles are the variable, unless there is a new generation of this speaker from the one I'm accustomed to. Both my cars had the stock, late-style speaker grilles.

Is there any chance that you could post a picture?

I can post somethig tomorrow. I've got the standard 4-speaker system and front door grills that everyone else seems to have.

You should try to score a set of 4x6 plates, most any of them should clear that grill.

Like these infinity's

If those are too deep these are the shallowest plates i could find in current production of a major "name" brand. Polks aren't to bad, i had a set of the 461 dbi's (that didn't fit under the grills) before i got my pod's on.

None of the plates will work because the plate itself is too thick.

I'll keep searching. What I really need is a set of the discontinued Alpine 406a speakers. I have a concierge service that can find just about anything and I'm going to call them in the AM. There has to be a set of those lying around somewhere I intend to find them...

Doh, that sucks, i always thought they would work. Good luck on your search for the 406's

One last attempt though.... These are odd, but maybe?

Hard to tell. Depends if that plate protrudes. I may stop by a Polk dealer tomorrow to see pair. Thanks for the tip.

These might work as well:

Probably crap speakers but I'm getting less picky every minute.

Is there any chance that the speakers would clear without the plastic spacers behind them? By how much are they interfering with the grilles?

The tweeter should have a plastic housing on them that you may be able to remove. It took a little finesse on my speakers, but I got them to sit flush. If you're interested in my speakers, they're coming available since I'm going to the factory M670 10-speaker setup. They're Blaupunkt OverDrive ODx462.

Here's some speakers that may work that you may want to look at:

Alpine SPS-406
Clarion SRG4621C
Infinity Reference 6432cf *
Jensen J146FR **
Kicker DS460
Kicker KS460
Polk Audio MM461p *

* denotes a strong contender; may need modification
** denotes drop-in fit

If it were me, I'd look long and hard at the Polk MM461p - it's a plate mount, but the plate is shaped like the oval part of the speaker. The Jensen J146FR is a dual cone made-in-USA speaker that should drop-in without ANY modifications. All of these speakers are listed at sonicelectronix - that's where I buy most of my speakers.

You may be able to take one of the plate mounts and get the plate to sit behind the door card against the door sheet metal. The grill will sandwich the door card between it and the speaker and make it look right, instead of putting the plate on top of the door card with the speaker grill directly on top of the plate. Does that make sense?

Good info. Going to look at those Polk plates at a local shop.

Where did that list come from? The Kickers are available but I'd need to see them in person. May try that. The Jensens will fit, and they're very cheap, but they're crap. I may end up with them. The Alpine 406's won't fit. The 406a's will. Going to research the others.

Yes, I may be interested in yours. When are you making the switch?
