Exclamation **New Momo shift **** ((PICS))**

Sounds like a simple procedure, but how do you remove the OEM shift ****?? I have a new Momo CF shift **** that I want to install, and I want to retain most of the OEM leather boot. Are there set screws or is it just "twist and pull" to remove the ****? I'll cut the boot close to the top of the ****.

Here's what the finished installation looks like! Thanks to IanM for the great deal on the MOMO ****!

The boot is fastened with four scews, loose them and lift it all up. Then you'll see a clamp holding the **** in place - release it and carefully slide the leather of the ****.

The replacement will probably rattle a lot so use some rubber tape around the stick to minimize the vibrations.

Randy, the outer leather boot is attached to a plastic trim ring which you see on the console. This trim ring has 4 plastic catch tabs that engage the surrounding console. It is easier to push up the trim ring from the bottom and you can probably get enough room to stick your hand under there if you remove the 2 screws under the ash tray and bend up a bit.

I think this this is what Anders is talking about when he mentions screws. Then just pull up the leather boot and you will see the spring clip that holds the works to the shift lever.

Randy, if you want me to come over, I can show you in detail, as I'm very good at it now! (I just sewed my second shift boot leather!)

I also still have the sewing machine out, so if any of you vancouver guys want to replace that shift boot, let me know, I'll can do it for the cost of the leather (usually $5-15 plus $5 labour for sewing and fitting to your car)

Perfect, thanks guys! Got it! And thanks to Anders for the tape idea to minimize the vibrations.

Rich, thanks for the offer - but I can manage as I have taken the center console out several times before. That's a great deal on a shift boot too, but mine will be fine - just worn and greasy / dirty feeling at the top! Yes, I'll save the old rubber **** and shift pattern insert too.

Randy, I just drove my car and I gave you bad info. You can't see the plastic boot retaining ring as the leather wraps around it, although tis is what is holding the leather on. Also, there are 8 plastic retaining clips not 4.

BTW Randy, if you are removing the shift leather, you should check the rubber boot that goes under the leather. it will probably have some tears in it. I recommend sewing these tears up with a needle and thick thread, while you have the leather off, because the tears can spread until the whole thing is a write off.

It's DONE!! Finally got around to starting on the P-Car list of "to do". Must say that the Momo Carbon / Combat shift **** feels pretty good.

Thanks for the idea Rich - only a very small tear in the rubber boot. Sounds like #1002 for Duct Tape!

You up for the car show tomorrow with a bunch of us around 12:30??

Rich it's the annual new car show at BC Place on this week.

The Momo **** feels great, but now I get a bit of metallic rattle even with the rubber inserts on the shifter shaft - think I'll try filling the Momo **** with clear silicone after coating it with a release agent to see if that will dampen it a bit. Actually, I think the rattling is coming from the shifter mechanism itself, now that the shift boot is "open" at the top.

Plus it seems a bit "tall", so I might trim the shaft a bit to lower the height since I've gone this far!

I'll take a photo and post it later.

<img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" /> OK, this is what it looks like now - think it stands a bit "tall",
so I might take the hacksaw to the shaft to lower it a bit.

IMHO, I think the Carbon Fibre and satin alum finish looks good in an otherwise dark interior.

Thanks for all the help and advice from Rennlisters!

Opinions??
