Default Engine reseal / overhaul

And I would need any help I could get to make the job easy, I have my hayens manual, but I have never disabled a engine before. And will only repair the things I can do myself the rest I will send into a shop to repair. Reasebly I can handle (I think learing alot ) and with help of some friends that know cars.

I WILL UPLOAD ALOT OF PHOTOS FROM DAY 1 SOON

Im taking my engine apart, cuz I got brown oil (oil with coolant?) and white (milkshake) on the dipstick and in the intake boot. So I figure im gonna do a seal service and replace any dmg parts with new ones and replace all other stuff that is worth replacing. Also have some oil "Swething" around the middle of the engine and under the oil pan. I was thinking of getting this parts, what more do I need ?
Any parts I "HAVE" to replace when im down ther ?

And do anyone have a nice tip on how to overhaule the torque tube bearings ?
Maybe with photos and link to the parts I need.
I have some noise from ether the torque tube or the tranny, I have a "new" tranny laying in the basement if the one in the car is &#/" also have 1 more torque tube. But I wanna overhaul em both so I can have my car A LONG LONG time

Should have a lot of useful information on removing the torque tube and getting the old bearings out, from what I've read it's not exactly a quick or easy process.

if yer updating the water pump, u also need to get the updated idler roller.

doing all the tensioners and rollers wouldn't be a bad idea...but some of those things on yer list aren't absolutely needed either.

u may also need to do the oil cooler gasket also. that's another source of coolant/oil mix.

krazykarl : Do you know someone that have done em ?

krystar : What things is not needed ?

I updatetd post one with links to all the parts, do the MDS coil and High preformance wires help the car running better or is the orignial once just as good ? And isnt the updatet parts included in the water pump kit i linked ?
Im not realy good with this stuff but im trying to learn
Im expecting to spend around $2500 total for the fixup of the engine to get the car running as good as it can. Best way to spend em ?

I didn't see connecting rod bearings on your list. If you're going to pull the oil pan you should at least replace these, check clearances, make sure no surprises (spun bearings). Do you plan to remove engine from car? If so, then do the main bearings to, have the crankshaft checked, etc. I would also have the cylinder bore measurements checked, condition of pistons, rods, wrist pins and if all good install new rings 'while you in there'....

That's an interesting idea worth discussing. We all know of the weak #2 bearing and the damage a failure can cause. But I've also heard experience engine guys say that nobody --NOBODY-- can get bearings to seat as well as the factory, and the #1 cause of a bearing failure is an imperfect installation of a replacement bearing. So do you mess with something that isn't broken?

I suppose that at some mileage (e.g. +175,000) you should do it while you're in there.

Mike C. : Thx il check what u have mentiond. The engine may come out, It depends on how far down im gonna go. Is it possible to change the oilpan seals without removing the engine ?

Yes on the oil pan seals. No on the rear main seal; either the engine or the clutch has to come out to do that. Greg, I hadn't ever heard of anyone having issues with doing CR bearings if they are replaced before being spun. I've never had any issues doing them and I just recently changed a set (while I was in there doing a leaky RMS) that had over 170,000 and they still looked good. If the engine is still in the car, you can't check rods for out of round, etc. so there is more risk doing them in-situ compared to engine out. I really don't believe there is any special skill to installing these provided you know how to work a torque wrench and plati-gage...

Nope, just noticed in my reading of rennlist that it was a difficult task. One suggestion regarding your first post, you might want to shrink the photos or lower the number of pics. I'm on a fat internet pipe and it still takes quite a while for all the pics to load.

Hehe... il shrink the photos next time im gonna upload. Maybe Il just overhaul my spare engine since its out of the car, and put all the good parts from the one in the car on that. I want to make it as good as new but don't wanna spend mutch more than what a shop takes to do it :P
One shop that knows engine's took $3000 for the work and my mate had all the parts. That was on a 200sx +400hp engine.

Anyway, what would be the best way to spend around $2500 to make the engine good as new or even alittle better ? New AFM and DME ?

I'm in the process of rebuilding my S2 engine and I figure it's going to cost around $2500 just on parts and some machine work on the block and crank shaft. It's not going to leave you much money for upgrades, and if you don't think you have a bad AFM or DME I wouldn't purchase new ones.

Okay, I think il only try and make the NA engine good as new then all stock. I was wondering if I use the Late style DME and AFM do I get better mpg and response ?

Not only is it another source, it's also a far more likely source of water/oil mixing especially on an NA car than a head gasket.

To the OP, given the extent of the work you are undertaking, you might as well purchase a full engine reseal kit rather than buying piecemeal. You'll save money and won't risk not having a seal you need. The wide fire ring head gasket is not necessary on your engine.

Thx Joe Jackson, do you have a link to onlinestore that sells full engine reseal kits ?

And I was just snooping around and found that lindsey do rebuild ? Engine for around $3000 http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Pors...44-25L-LB.html

But I think il do all I can myself so I can learn and know how it all works
Is ther a way to test the waterpump or is it always good to replace it anyway ?
How to know if its a new or old style ?
