very rare 2 find one still working, and the price? has anyone modded and wrist watch lcd screen 2 replace?

Buy One from the US.
They are under $100USD in working condition.
You could make a queens fortune over there importing them.

Or for less than $5, you can buy any number of cheap chinese LCD stick-on clocks that will work for 30 or 40 yrs with only an occasional battery change. Apparently this was beyond VDO's capabilities on a $30k car in the '80's. Rant over
