We need a website that will list all the shops to stay away from. I believe this will be a valuable tool for us Porsche owners! I would like to add Howard Cooper to the list (court date still pending). Any thoughts on this?

DeePice, now your talking. That is what should be done. And yes putting the old part back would be wear and tear. I can understand if it was my old tube but this was another tube, a rebuilt one. My old tube was taken out the second time the tranny came down because the pressure plate was not installed correctly and it was vibrating. Maybe it was not even a rebuilt tube. Maybe it was just my old tube cleaned up. Who the hell can tell. This is just shear incompetance. I doubt they did half the stuff they charged me for. I know alot of you guys are trying to defend the honest mechanics out there and that is commendable. But when you spend almost 11K your gonna be pissed off.

Operator and all other Rennlisters. Sorry if I am coming across as an AHole. I don't mean to take it out on you guys. This site has been an invaluble asset. I've just been having this brewing for a while now. I was already pissed off from the last time I had to go to the shop. then the final straw was getting stuck in Lawrence MA with a busted water pump. That is almost 238 miles from my house. The flatbed cost me $200. Thank goodnes that triple A covered the rest or it probably would have cost at least $400 or more. Sorry again for venting, I'm just at the end of my rope and don't know what to do or who to trust anymore. I am a beaten man.....

Wow...a lot of troubled car owners out there. Go to an approved PCA tech centre. You may pay more but the work will be properly done. It's as simple as that.

When I got my 944S2, I had it inspected by a shop in Des Moines, Iowa. That was the mistake that cost me around $3000 and left me with seriously messed up brakes. To fight it, I needed another mechanic that would write a statement that the first messed up my car. Nobody local would even consider it.

I found later that this shop had a reputation for scamming customers for fake repairs. The good news is that, after a long search, I did find a good Porsche mechanic. If anyone in central Iowa wants details about the good and bad mechanic stories, feel free to e-mail me.

ya know everytime i read this board, it scares the sh*t outta me to see what happens to go out next on my 944. <img src="graemlins/oops.gif" border="0" alt="[oops]" /> Sticks like peanut butter to the roof of your mouth

The 944 is a great car, but we were all warned about the upkeep of these. Yet, we are still more reliable than any other exotic car out there, including the 911.

Hey 97xray,

Glad to hear you are having good experiences with Michael Haines. I will be taking my car to him again sometime soon. My problem is, I'm scared to death of even the legitimate repair costs for my 944, or even my Toyota Camry.

FX
I to broke down ,away from home,(NH )the clutch went,no warning.Anyway it went to the dealer they quoted me 3k(new flywheel.)I had the car towed to an independant(recommended by a rennlister)who did the job for $1700 (new flywheel).I ve driven the car almost everyday since may ,they did and awsome job,not even one rattle!!
Anyone in northern Ma or NH I used Northern European Automotive,(Concord) I think. The owner works on the 944 .They were very knowledgeable, and did a great job for me ,on time as promised, no hidden charges!I am not affiliated with them just a satisfeid customer!
