Default porsche 944 Leaking coolant

Hello there,

I have a 1989 944 Auto, recently I have noticed some strange smells from the car, like a burning or something but very mild, I opened the bonnet and noticed the coolant was very low, just above the pipe at the bottom, I added more water and when it got to a certain level the coolant level would fall and stop at just below the minimum level, I would add mor coolant but again it would fall to that same level, when I looked under the car I saw no leaks, so I wonder what it could be.

Also recently my heater has stopped working

Also Is it safe to drive the car?, or should I not drive it?

thanks

When you start the car do you see a trail of white smoke for a minute or so? Does it smell sweet?
When you first drive down the road, does your car exhaust smoke for a minute?
This is usually the head gasket.

Do a leak down test and a compression test.

Go to a LAPS (local auto parts store) and rent/deposit a coolant pressure tester. Put in a few pounds or Kg of pressure----not a lot----and search for leaks. Check the reservoir tank cap as well.

Heater stopped working? Is the cable clamp on the heater control valve missing?

I had a similar issue last summer that ended up being due to a cracked cylinder head, lets hope it's not the same case for you. Check your dip stick to see if you oil level has gone up, if the missing coolant is ending up in the oil it'll be sitting at the bottom of your oil pan.
