Hi Everyone,
I need some advice on pricing a 944 for sale. The car belongs to a friend of mine and she has no need for it anymore. Its an early 85 with 85,000 on the clock. The only down sides are that its an automatic and a non sunroof car. Overall its in good shape needing minor things here and there. The interior is very clean except on the drivers seat where its starting to split a little. Any ideas on prices? Oh yeah forgot to mention, it is due for a belt change since it hasn't been driven since 1996.
Thanks,
Steve

According to the price guide in Excellence magazine, an early 85 944n/a is worth:
$3835 (poor condition)
$4361 (good condition)
$5838 (excellent condition)
Based on the need to replace the belts, seals...etc, the car you speak of is probably worth somewhere between $3800 and $4300.
Just my $0.42

No Sunroof... No 5-speed manual tranny... Does it come with a 5'5", blonde, petite, beautiful hood ornament that is warm blooded???
If not forget it!!! It's not worth it!!!
It's up to you but I wouldn't spend my hard earned cash on it. Especially if it's been sitting since 96. My truck sat for a year before I bought it. PITA. I spent more time troublehooting issues on the side of the road during year one than I will ever put up with again.

Actually, this might be an interesting car. The non-sunroof option is sought after by the track crowd. The auto trans can be changed to a manual. The big draw back is the amount of down time the car has seen. All the hoses and belts are going to need to be changed and the engine gone through - fluids etc. As a track car it has possibilites, but even then it's not going to be worth much.

The auto is a big negative... how much does it cost to change one out? Didn't Shaun have this done? Either way, you'd have to offer a VERY low price in order to justify not just buying a 5 speed if you went this route... Also, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that this car might have the ORIGINAL belts (unless you have records proving otherwise.) Even with the possibility of a newer belt, I'd bet money it still has the original water pump.
