Local supplier sells Toluene for $45/Gallon
Tell me if you think this is rather high for a gallon of Toluene....$45.00 Canadian!!! That's about $30 usd!!! I checked out all paint supplies store in town and no one has any Toluene, one store had "laquer remover" etc with Toluene listed as an ingredient for $15.00 a gallon. there must be a cheaper way to get some of this. By the way, have any of you tried this stuff? Any success/horror stories?

Guys,
I worked for Sherwin Williams for 13 years. Besides the fact that that company just plain sucks and has attrocious work and environmental ethics, it was not uncommon to give a different price to everyone who called about Toluene (or SW sku# R2K4). They (SW) know who is buying it for legit reasons, and who is buying it to put in babyfood jars and selling it to school children to "huff".
The honest people pay one price, while the people that they think might be shady pay more. Sometimes up to $50 per gallon. This is to discourage the people buying it for the illegal use. In some municipalities a special permit must be issued by the authorities to purchase R2K4.
For reference, since I hate that company and won't set foot in another one of those stores ever, I'll tell you that the store cost on it is approximately $2.85 per gallon. At least that what it was 2 years ago.
