Default Two of these things are not like the others

Doing some preventative maintenance on my 944S project. I don't think the valve cover has ever been off the car in 24 years/145k or so miles, so I'm changing both tensioner pads, the J-tube tensioner feed line, and the head gasket/seals. I removed the cams tonight. Guess which ones are the #2 bearing caps:

And yes, the cams and head show wear too. The exhaust journal is gouged, like someone took a center punch and lightly hit it a bunch of times, in addition to the linear wear scratches.

I found a Jiffy Lube receipt for a 5W-30 change of oil in the stack of paperwork. UNLESS YOU DRIVE YOUR CAR IN CANADA IN WINTER, PAY ATTENTION TO THE OIL YOU USE!!!!!

I'm guessing a previous owner brought the car to Jiffy Lube, and Joel found the receipt in with the rest of the maintenance history that came with the car.

It's less about Jiffy Lube and more about needing to watch what viscosity goes into the engine. That doesn't help things.

I'm sure something else was involved in that- maybe the gallery for that surface plugged up over time.

Another good shot contrasting #s 2 and 3.

You need a 40 weight oil in summer, for sure. I used to run Mobil 1 0W-40 in my old 944 in winter. That engine looked better than this one upon a similar teardown.

Here's some more fun. I found a fairly fresh head gasket. No worries, I bought the complete kit, so I'll pull the valves, do those seals, take care of the oil cooler, etc. But whoever did this failed to properly install an exhaust stud, forgot the nut, and let it leak:
