For what it costs to replace many of the high pressure lines with factory ones, I've found that it may well be much cheaper to have them fabricated from braided stainless.

Great ride Phd! Where are the side mirrors?

Stephen-

WOW! That's really nice! <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" /> I've never really cared TOO much for the 924 line, but have always respected them, as they were the pioneers for the 944 line, so I always stop to look at them when I see them on the side of the road, etc- they are few and far b/t around here, but it's always nice to check them out- and well worth it when the one in question happens to be a good example. Your's appears to be a seroius project- it looks like you've completely gutted it and rebuilt it, paint and all, from the ground up or something(?). you've fixed the main things I dislike about normal 924's- not sure if they're standard for the 931 or if your's are custom...

One thing I've always disliked about the 924's is the lack of roundedness in the body panels- I've always womdered if the panels from the 944 could be used to replace them- also, I've never really liked the nose or tail (bumpers, etc) of the 924 OR 944- these are areas that I feel the 951 REALLY perfected- as well as the 968...

I notice several things about your's- did the 931 have the rounded fenders like the 951 or did you do that yourself somehow? I notice that the rears are different from the 951 in that they're more squared looking- could a 951 rear fender be cut off and welded on in place? I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble, and your pic's the only one I've seen of the 931, so I can't really tell if it would look much better (if any). Also, I LOVE the intercooler nose panel w/the 4 holes- but the lights- did the 931 have pop-ups or was it like the LeMans racers? Have you ever weighed your car? Do you have any interior pics that I could see? I would love to see more...

Thanks,
Robby

Dave,
I had thought about that, but wanted an exact replica of the "Carrera Gt" so the factory lines were used. It was my goal to have people look at it and not be able to tell it wasn't the real deal. Ha, for what it end up costing to make, I could have imported the real deal. At least this way I know what I have. The mirrors are still waiting for seals. They sent the early versions
Robby,
The 944 panels can be put on them without issue. Takes some welding, but can be done. One of the things I had a problem with was the 937 rockers. I couldn't get them as the dealers can't in the US. I imported most of the parts to make it as close as possible. I ended up buying dog legs from 944. Post to post and cut them out then grafted them into the lower rockers. The front fenders were changed to glass and the rears cut and GT flares added. I also changed the wheels. This was Jim Pasha's car from excellence and had some goodies already. As far as the job, I gutted the entire thing. Pulled the doors, glass etc. It was all done as well as I know how to do. I have replaced every seal and even fabricated inner wells to meet the flares. The headlights on a 931 were pop up, but the GT (937) could be ordered with the GTS(939)headlights which were the clear stationary versions. That is what I am using here and why the headlights aren't present. I am finishing up the interior today, in fact took a break from laying the carpet to check my mail. I will post some pics of that soon as well as the engine when I get it cleaned back up from the dust. Here are some before and during conversion pics..
PS one thing to note is that the tranny suspension and brakes were pretty much all 944. This car was the prcurser to the 944. I have crossed drilled rotors ready to install if I can ever finish this. Interesting the SC 911 rotor is the same as the front and the rears cross to an early 928.

Robby-

If you want to see a somewhat stock one, go to the 924/924S/931 specific forum. I posted a picture of my garage queen there.

I love that Carrera GT look on the 931, but I'm going for the stealth approach. The mods I'm making are to the engine and suspension, and lighten where possible. My only give away will be the hood scoop for the intercooler. I've even considered leaving it as is exterior, dead paint and dents intact. The wife probably won't tolerate that, but it's the ultimate Q-ship camo.
