Default Interior light not switching off

I just noticed that my interior lights (both passenger cabin and trunk) are not switching off when all doors and trunk lids are closed. Both light switches are set correctly and I remember it worked fine just a few weeks ago. The only changes I made are replacement of the rear hatch struts and I also installed a new battery. And it got really cold here...
I looked around a bit but can't locate the problem. Can someone get me on the right path?

I believe there is a switch on the rear struts?

Yes there is a switch on one of the struts so if you put them on the wrong sides your switch is not connected and the light stays on. I was sold two of the non-switch sides once because I did not know to look for it and it took me a while to figure out what was going on there.

Yes, there is a switch in the passenger side hatch strut, but it works by inturrupting a ground; When the hatch is opened, the ground is completed. when the hatch is closed, the ground connection is broken.
if the tabs were not there (i.e. wrong strut) or not connected at all, then the circuit would think that the hatch is closed.
If you did install the correct struts then I'd start by checking that connection; try disconnecting things to see if the problem goes away.

Thanks for the quick help, problem found! I did have the correct struts and they were mounted right, but what I didn't know was that the switch on the strut is interrupted by this plastic sleeve that moves in when you close the hatch and cuts off power. The switch can be moved on the strut and then fixed in place with a screw. It was simply not in the right place, so that plastic sleeve did not go in far enough to cut off the power. Works perfectly now.
