Please, what ever you do DON'T part it out. If you feel the need let me know. I'll buy the car and fix it myself. It isn't as bad as it looks. Why send it to the big garage in the sky when it could easily be saved. Even it has a bent frame rail, it can be straighten after you take the fender and hood and the other bent stuff off.

Isn't (at least liability) insurance mandatory where you live? Just asking. I thought it was in all of the states now.

I feel for ya,

Dsalillas, man that sucks! I'm sorry to hear about your accident, but at least you made it out (relatively) unscathed.

Did your accident happen on or near Highway 280? I saw a LOT of wrecks yesterday.

Maybe it's not surprising that the airbags did not deploy. I've heard that the airbags in these cars are unlikely to deploy unless they have been recharged. (Unless, of course, you are working on the steering wheel or dash, in which case they will deploy in your face.)

Mind if I ask where the junkyard is that you mention? My 944 could use a couple of parts (A-arms and a few interior bits) here and there.

I don't know what to advise with regard to parting or rebuilding. Sadly, the car may be worth more in parts than as a whole. But that is your decision.

Well, it does suck to hit something with any car. If it's a Porsche it bad luck and if it's your Porsche, it soesn't get much worse. But as every one has said, you walked away and sheet metal can be replaced. But does this yard down there have a name or webiste? I am looking for the rear half of a carpet set from a black 968 Cab. I ahve found one place with them, but they won't split the set up and I don't need the front half. Thanks.

Man sorry to hear about you accident. Sucks when you know your a decent driver but just can’t avoid something like this.

From what I can see and with the time I have spent underneath the hood you may need some hard parts like the front radiator support. The guys are right the bumper is way too far in for the bumper shocks to be the only thing affected. With the severity of the angle I wouldn’t be surprised if you find that you have one or both side rails in need of a frame machine. Sorry I don’t mean to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like you will be in for more than just exterior parts. Taking a second look at the driver’s side picture you can see that the gap at the top driver’s door has closed. The way these fenders are bolted to the car there is only one way in an accident I know of that this can happen. I wont even say it I will let you go over it, just know I am so sorry to see this happen.

On the up side, If you find everything to be in order underneath there are many options for you to explore. I don’t know what 944S2NUT’s problem is with Fiberwerks products, but mine is serving me well and still looks awesome! They are a viable option to the stock parts. If you have a local part place then you should be in good shape if you can get then not to screw you on the cost of parts. You may even consider something like the GT2 nose panel with the four holes in the it for better air flow to the intake.

Well good luck man. Don’t part it out I hate to see these cars go down for any reason.

Maybe we should all chip in to buy you a chainsaw to cut that tree down. That will be the last Porsche that tree can hurt!

I looks totalled to me. It does not take much with the current low market values on these cars.

Yes, insurance is required in Alabama, and you are taking a big risk driving without it. Maybe he only has liability and that is why the damage is not covered.

Have Watkins or Classic look at it and give you an estimate before you make a decision. I hate to see these cars parted out. Used parts can lower the cost significantly. Where is this junkyard you mentioned? It is a well kept secret, I live in Birmingham and want to patronize the establishment.

Glad you are OK.

For those who live in B'ham the accident happened on 280 right in front of the Marriot. Insurance is mandatory in Alabama, but only liability which doesn't help me in this case unless the tree wants to sue me for damages. I didn't see any sense in getting comprehensive if I only paid four grand for the car. I'm having a shop look at it to see if the frame is bent and if they can pull it, After that I'll take it down to Watkins or Trammels to get the rest of the work done.

No, I wasn't wearing my seatbelt which was my fault, but I was on my way to work and it's so close to my house(I can see my workplace from my front porch)that I got too lazy to wear my belts for a 2 minute ride. Normally I wear my belts if I'm going anywhere else.

This wreck is not as bad as the one I had in my second car. I was going about 25 around a slow turn when the car lost all contact and drifted into the outside curb. I woke up 4 hours later strapped to a back board inside the CAT scan machine. The police told me the car had flipped upside down slid into a tree slamming into the drivers side door. If the tree hadn't been there I'd be upside down in 4 feet of creek water. When the police arrived at the scene I was outside of the car saying I was late for work and I couldn't find my cell phone to call. They also said I was coherent enough to answer all the info queations they asked me but I remember none of this. Luckily all I got was a few bruises, a sore neck, and cuts from the glass. I took almost 7 months before I got the nerve to get behind the wheel and I started auto-xing to speed up the process.
Reckless driving is not something I take lightly.

Thanks for all the support guys, if the car is fixable I'm going to get it done right.

No Worries.

Sean, E-mail me and I'll send you the info on the salvage yard.

Man, that sucks. Looking at the extent of the damage..I'd say you're looking at frame damage. I'll be surprised if ther insurance conmpany doesn't total it.
