Lightbulb Question about stone guards

I need to replace my stone guards when I repaint the car. I've seen sets for sale ranging from $80 to $95. So here's the question, is there any reason I can't make my own? I'm not sure where I can find that 3M stuff in a big enough sheet, but what about sign shops? Is there any reason not to make them out of clear vinyl, I know they probably won't last quite as long, but if they're significantly cheaper who cares. Any thoughts?

You can also try Zim's Auto technik (TX). They used to have great deals on stone guards.

you can get a set for 65 bucks off ebay and through the rennlist ads. 3M, very high quality, go on *fairly easy* if you take your time.
why make your own when a whole set is only around 60 bucks?

I think I heard somewhere before (i.e. don't hold me to this) that kinkos has the stuff you need.

Kinkos huh? Hmmm... I think I've seen the stuff in auto paint stores too. If someone would like to contribute the pattern, I'd be glad to scan it & host it on my website for FREE download (of course). Bruce

From what I've heard/read, you need a heat gun and a plastic scraper. Mine are practically welded on, so I'll probably damage the paint getting them off, which doesn't matter since I'm painting the car.

So should I just walk up to the Kinkos counter and let them know that I need 3m stone guards for a Porsche 944, or are they going to need the Porsche part number?

I'm probably going to have a few sets made if any of you are interested. Let me know what colors yall want and I'll be more than happy to send them your way for cost plus a little bit to go towards the money pit know as my 944S.

Is there anyway to replace these without repainting? or is there really no way to get them off without messing up everything
