Thumbs up Happy with Deman Motorsport in NY / 88 951S for sale (not mine)

For once, I'd like to post a positive note about a mechanic.

As some of you may remember, the car was exhibiting a shudder on full boost in 2nd gear primarily, with it less noticable in 1st and 3rd. I brought it to one mechanic, who suggested tranny fluid (LSD may be slipping)...I tried this, and as I thought I found this to be incorrect. Next, I brought the car to Deman, where Rick went for a 10-15 min test drive with me and my brother and he decided it was the clutch.

He even went so far as to say that if it wasn't the clutch, he would pay for labor.

At the same time, I opted to let him do a front engine reseal (including replace water pump, etc).

A few days after I brought the car in, they called me and I came in to check it out. They showed me all the unexpected things, asked me what I wanted to do...and it was taken care of.

I brought the car in, and a week and a day or two later I had the car back.
When I got in the car I noticed a problem with the shift linkage (a lot of freeplay), which they acknowledged as their fault after I pointed it out and they checked out the linkage. However, I needed the car so I took it. Upon leaving, I found the car was exhibiting the symptons of a bad AFM...this was an issue prior to bringing the car in, so they didn't pay for a new (to me) one. I purchased one from a fellow rennlister/autocrosser and the car was running great after that.

The important part was that the shudder was gone, bingo...clutch was the problem.

Later on I went to look for the wheel lock key, so that they could take care of the shift linkage problem...I couldn't find it. I called Deman and they couldn't find it either, so we decided that they would get em off using whatever means necesary.

Fastforward to today, I brought the car in at 11, they were very busy...During lunch (12-1), they had a guy with a master wheel lock key from the local Porsche dealer come by and remove all the locking lugs. Anyway, they ended up fixing the shift linkage and taking care of all my questions and checking out a few things.

I had picked up some fabcar a-arms from them as well...when I got home I noticed one of the bushings was broken (delrin, the front one that bolts to the cross member)...I called them up...no big deal...they will replace it.

Anyway, if its not clear, I left today very satisfied...and would definetely recommend Deman to anybody in need of Porsche service.

The car for sale is an '88 951s that they bought with a timing belt failure...they rebuilt the top end, did clutch, front engine reseal..etc...the car should be ready to go pretty soon. It has had a full repaint and is black with 88k miles. Give them a call if interested... 845-727-3070 . Rick is the guy you want to talk to (he's the head honcho).

No affiliation, no discount for this, just satisfied with a mechanic for a change.

http://www.demanmotorsport.com if curious. Their labor rate is $85/hr.

I consider this experience similar to dealing with Paragon. Sure, problems arise, but they are dealt with very well.

Anyhew, here's some pics from today. Some from Deman, some from the drive back, some from this cool used car place/storage place. The evo VIII sounded very sweet...

Sorry for the length

I agree.

Good mechanic.

They build some INSANE track cars. Quality mechanics are hard to find, end of search.

Must be nice!

My previous mechanic did my timing and balance belts without replacing the waterpump EVEN AFTER I ASKED HIM ABOUT IT! "Oh its fine." Hmm...

Fast forward a few months later (last week), new/good mechanic: Leaky waterpump and bad thermostat.

Now I have to waste $500 in labor to have new mechanic go in and do what old mechanic should've done months ago. Thankfully my engine did not grenade due to dodgy waterpump.
