Post Quick help - "smoke" coming from header area after I painted engine...

Guys, I painted the top of my engine, and had a little overspray go on the header. I started her up (after fixing the fuel injectors, cross your fingers that they stay fixed) and a strong smell of burning plastic or paint was coming (along with a little smoke) from the header area.

Should I be worried? I remember someone's post about purchasing Bursch headers (or some other header) that were painted from the factory and they smoked for a while.

By the way, YES I did use ENGINE HIGH TEMP (500 deg F) paint.

TIA,
Matt

Matt,

High temp engine paint is not suitable for painting headers. Thus the smoke you see. Header paint is the 1200 degree stuff.

Here is a photo of some.

can I just leave it on there and let it burn off? Or will it ignite?

I tried to get it off but no luck.

Thanks,
Matt

It will just burn off-won't ignite, be a little smelly for a little while but don't worry about it.
