Fantastic post. More importantly, incredible work. The results are truly amazing. Thanks for sharing this - I have now added this to my bookmarks folder for future reference.

Did you retrofit the heating mechanisms into the seat, or are you saying all I need to do is purchase the new bezel and heat switch?

I wish it was that easy!

These are new (to me) seats that had the heater built into them. What I'm saying is that the car itself is already wired for heated seats and, because the switch itself is built into the seat, all you have to do is install new seats and plug them into the existing wiring harness.

oh i see, you bought heated seats and this write up was for installing them in a car that did not have the heated seat option.

Well, that and the wee little effort to re-dye them a different color

I looked in the manual and there is a temp switch with opens when the seats are above the cutoff temperature of the temp switch. If you follow the heater lead back into the seat you should find it attached to the lowest heated pad. Not sure if it is adjustable as I don't have heated seats.

Thanks Brian. I'm a little tired of schlepping seats in and out right now but the next time I have a seat out (and it's above freezing...) I'll have a look.

Anyone with heated seats out of the car care to have a look for the edification of us all?

For those that are thinking about doing this, I contacted Leatherique about the Vinyl backs and piping that our leather seats have and their email is below:

"Yes, our product works perfect to also recolor the vinyl, plastic trim, pvc, and other parts in the car. The prepping for vinyl is the same as the leather, use prepping agent and fine grit wet or dry paper to clean the surface of any silicone sealers, wax, or petroleum products. You can't remove any color on vinyl, so it is more of a thorough cleaning. Allow to dry thoroughly then redye."

Greg,

Good to see your car out and about again. After sitting in those seats at the cars and coffee last year I started searching for a set. My race seats hold VERY WELL but just are not the most comfortable thing to drive everyday.

I just picked up a set of factory heated sport seats that need some restoration. looking forward to dying them, patching the holes and having them in the car.

Thanks Cole, mighty glad to have it back on the road. Well done on the new seats, let me know if I can be of assistance on the restoration.

Cheers

Well, I sold my race seats so I had I tossed the sport seats in my car to use it a bit and test them.

Motors work fine but the heat does not work. Thoughts? (already checked the fuse)

Also anyone know what SEM dye color matches the Champaign color in Gregs car? My dash and doors don't match the seats. I might just restore the sets to their original color and then have to SEM match the dash.

SEM Palamino is a good match for Champagne, that's what I used on my door panels.

Fortunately for me my heaters worked out of the box, unfortunately that means I'm not much help to you regarding the bun warmers.
