Post I got em -18 inchers (pics)

Well I finally broke down and got the 18" I have had my eye on. What do you think? I love them. 8.5" in front 10" in back. 225/40-18 and 265/35-18. No rubbing or bottoming out.

It has totally change the handling of the car. Much more precise. And the feel is awesome. I was worried about the ride, but actually it is noticably more quiet and smoother, even my wife said it was a huge difference. This was my only concern going with the big boys was noise and ride harshness. I must have had really noisy and hard 16" because it is so much better. Before I could hear and feel every little crack in the pavement, now it feels more stiff but not harsh.

Best upgrade so far and I got a great deal on the wheels and dunlops s03's. Next step new Fiberwerks rockers and GT rear bumper.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />

Did you paint the original handles or are those 968 handles?

Also, the marker lenses- I assume you did those yourself, or did you find them somehwhere?

Car looks awesome!

Robby--

I painted the door handles, fairly easy upgrade without the expense of 968 handles. You can see a close up in my p-car homepage. Check out the link under my signature. The side markers I also painted, do know if I like them I think it may be too much. Thanks for the compliments.

More upgrades to come...

I used the following info from <a href="http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html" target="_blank">Tire Calculator</a> to get my tire size close to the factory rolling diameter

I wanted to make sure that what ever tire I chose was not going to adversly affect the speedo. If have done my research right I should be in pretty good shape. Below is the results of my research, hopefully this will help someone.

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
205/55-16 4.4in 12.4in 24.9in 78.2in 811 0.0%
225/40-18 3.5in 12.5in 25.1in 78.8in 804 0.8%

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
225/50-16 4.4in 12.4in 24.9in 78.1in 811 0.0%
265/35-18 3.7in 12.7in 25.3in 79.5in 797 1.8%

FYI: My new rims' specs are as follows:

8.5Jx18 ET 52
10Jx18 ET 65

I did not get the part # before I mounted them. I did not use the widley tested standard for the fronts, sorry Tom P. I decided to go wider to fill the space- thus the 8.5 and the ET 52. I had them test mounted just to verify before the purchase--no rubs so far--

Tested rennlist standard for 18" on 944 is same as 996 or 993 with OEM twists:

*PORSCHE FACTORY WHEELS for 996:
Front #993.362.134.06 (7.5JX18-ET50)
BACK #993.362.140.04(10JX18 ET65)

I have detailed info on factory Technology (hollow spoke) or Turbo Look (solid spoke) wheels on my web site.

my 245/45/r17 tires rub on hard corners, but as you can calculate with that handy tire calculator, these are 5% too big for the car. they look bigger than those 18's, so you probably have less of a problem than i do, if any at all

I suppose Jrocks' wheels are Mille Miglia's clones. They make every possible Porsche "cup" wheel clones for 944 models.

These are actually made in Italy by FRH international LaPine Oregon. They have ads in Excellence. I do not know the weight I will be taking them off this week to refinish the calipers. I will let you know the total, tire + wheel.

MrMunky-- I took her out this morining did some pretty agressive driving on some back roads. No rubs--I don't image though that I push it very hard like some of you track guys. We will see one day if I every take her out to PIR.

Jrock -

Absolutely beautiful!

I spent hours this weekend trying to clean the "Carerra Cups" on my Cabrio. I'd love to move to a similar style on my car.

Is your suspension stock? If so the 18s give the illusion that the car is sitting lower.

Nice car overall! Oh yeah, I thought I was the only one with the wood dash!
