Default MY first post ! need help fixing my heater.

Hey guys , i have an 86 944 na , its winter in NY and temps are in the 40s ! The heat in my car isn't working. The only time that i feel any heat is when the car is in motion. The faster i go , the more heat i get. The problem is i live in the city and im rarely on the highway. I noticed when i press the fan button and the light turns on ...........the heat stops at any speed. Seems like the fan isnt blowing any air...... any suggestions on what the problem might be ?

From clarks-garage.com

If your car's heater works fine while driving down the road but the air from the vents becomes cold at idle, you probably have air in the coolant system. Air pockets in the coolant system often accumulate in the heater core. At higher engine RPMs the coolant pump will develop enough discharge head to force some coolant through the heater core. However, at idle, the air pocket will keep coolant from flowing through the core. If you are experiencing these symptoms, vent the coolant system using the COOL-02, Coolant System Draining, Filling, and Venting.
Reading you last sentence it looks like air in the heater core may not be your problem if the fan stops completely.

thanks for that piece of info krazykarl but it seems like the fan doesn't turn on at all . could it be a fuse ? maybe faulty climate control unit ?

Might be a faulty or corroded blower relay in the fuse box, do you ever hear the blower spinning when stopped?

Fan button? Do you mean the AC switch? The blower is controlled by a **** and the switch itself inside the climate control unit can fail. The blower itself can fail also, and the overtemp thermal switches can also fail but those generally cause the fan to only work on high.

If you have no blower at all I'd test the blower motor first (after checking obvious stuff first like fuses.)
