Yeah, sun shade is a must, I just bought a new old dash, so I want to stop the cracks before they become problematic...thankfully they're paper-cut size right now, I'll have to give the eastwood kit a shot and try drilling...

A sunshade will protect the dash from UV, but there are two elements that are trying to ruin your dash. Along with UV, heat causes the vinyl to dry and shrink. Heat will destroy your dash.

A sunshade will reduce a small amount of the heat load incurred by your car when parked outside, but a car cover is better at reducing interior temps. And the cover will also protect your paint. Dont be lazy use a car cover.

Using a car cover is about as likely as me flossing morning and night. I park in the shade for most of the day, it'll get the sunshade, but covering the car is NOT an option, especially given that I often have to show my car to customers...pointing at the big grey sheet in the parking lot isn't really an option ;o)

Zucker,

Not sure what you mean by "base of crack" ? If the crack is in front of windshield would think would be difficult to drill. Agree removing stress concentration will help too.

Lastly, in direct sun, I place a white cloth over crack as I think this helps with relection of heat too.

I"ll tell you what a good thing to do would be rather than using a car cover or a sunshade which to me are a PITA. Get one of the carpet dash covers. I've got one on my car and have had zero problems with it, dash looks brand new. Of course I keep the dash conditioned regularly as well.

Some people don't like the looks of the carpet thing, but it works! And even if you don't want to leave it on there all the time you can just toss it on there when it's going to be sitting outside and take it off once you get back in it. It's a lot easier to take that on and off than dealing with a sunshade, although it does only cover the dash and not the rest of the front interior, but it's better than nothing.

You can get Vinylex at stable energies:

They ship. Plus they are active in PCA.

Okay, yes I love Lexol! Kept my black leather seats beautiful, and no cracks!

but I think the guys are correct, in the Vinylex. I've saved the URL myself.

I think taking care of your car will pay off in the long run. I always found the pop-up dual circle window shields worked the best on my 944, and the most portable.

I always parked in the shade, if available, even if I had to wash the car later that night for the bird crap.

I think the covers for the dash always made any car look wierd - but I guess you could keep alot of things velcroed to it, including that little hula dancer!
