For an engine I would say the best you can get is a 3.0L 944S2 engine bored out to 3.2L w/ a nice big turbo and a full engine management system.

For suspension probably the M030 option suspension w/ a few mods (depending on how stiff you consider being still streetable).

For brakes which is better the 928S4 GTS brakes or the 993TT brakes? Last I heard they're the same thing for the most part...

For a chasis a 968 coupe chassis would probably be best, but since that's not technically a 944 the '88 944 Turbo S chassis would probably be the best. You would also have to determine your own balance between lightweight and still having a full interior. I guess you could replace all the fenders/bumpers/hood/door skins with either carbon fiber or fiberglass parts to save some weight though. A sunroof delete option would also save weight, but it's not worth it in my opinion.

For transmission the 968 6speed would be best w/ one of those aftermarket TORSEN differentials, although I'm pretty sure they only make them for the 944, and I'm pretty sure the 944 tranny is a bit stronger.

There is a guy in Northern California that has an 86 944 turbo with a Millege 600+ horsepower motor.

It has a 968 six speed tranny and too many other goodies to name. He also takes the fifth when asked how much he has invested. It is a daily driver and a very clean car. He has difficulty getting traction in the first "4" gears (nice problem to have) and was going through clutches.

I believe I saw him post that he also keeps 55 gallon drums of racing fuel in his garage.

I don't know if he tracks it. I think this car was in one of the Tuner magazines, where the readers vote on "What is the Baddest Car" type of article.

Some people know what they want and just go for it.
