Shoot, if Porsche ever does release something similar, focused as a sports car, it better be light! I cant imagine having a sport car, and loading in 4 people...an added 600lbs! (average 150lbs/person) Cayenne is the exception. Its made to haul a$$ - literally!

Wishes aside, with the introduction of the Pepper Porsche, in all its puplic anouncements, ceased being a sport car company and became a luxury car company. As with any business that has lost track of its roots in favor of the bottom line they will produce any high profit car that brings in $$

With that in mind the so-called 928 replacement will probably compete with the 500 series Mercedes and high end Bimmers. IMHO don't look for cost efficient Porsches. The institutional memory of the 944 and 986 series saving the company by mass selling of reasonably priced cars is just not there.

Its performance is great, and it can be made even better if you are willing to spend. (how many cars can you buy for $2000 on ebay and make the ultimate track car for another $10k? 12K totaly for a Ferrari killer, not bad, especially since it feels good and has german tech.)The 944 will never be worth cash, and it will always suck up way more than its worth, even as a parts car...but its worth as a true drivers car is priceless. There will always be room for a 944 in my garage!

Amen brother.

I believe this as well. With the GT coming out there has to be more. Its technology has to trickle somewhere, especially since the company is going racing again. I think we still have plenty to see from Porsche. With rumors of the 911 going back to "rougher" looks and rumors of V8s falling into sports cars, release of the US GT3, and Turbo Cab around the corner... i just cant see Porsche going to sedans and luxury vehicles anytime soon. I do wish the dashs were a little simpler. Do we need these bigger consoles? Personally the 944 had the best dash, followed by the 993.

this is what the link says...

Hot Porsche rumor

We tell you about the E2 from one of our Mercedes-Benz moles:

Rumor is that Porsche is developing a Jag Fighter too, a V8 Coupe' with foor doors codenamed E2. "The E2A is a 2+2 coupe, while E2B is a four-door sports wagon/shooting brake" according to Issue 488 April 2003 of "CAR" magazine. "Both are powered by the V8 Cayenne, and both have the potential to be offered in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive." Theirs may have rear-hinged doors similar to the new Mazda RX-8 but unlike the CLE which will have doors that open conventionally. Porsche originally made an attempt to build this car with their "989" prototype developed in the mid-nineties. At that time the board of directors turned down the car saying it was "too far away from their sports car tradition". After the Cayenne, they must be thinking differently. If this car makes it to the market, Mercedes may not be standing alone with their "Jag Fighter"....

I don't about what you guys think, but they *are* going to do something with those engines, somewhere, somehow...!
