One other note, home mortgage interest rates have never been this low (at least not in my lifetime). Now is definitely the time to invest in real estate.

House. But buy a cool house, not some crackerbox. Those suburban houses will kill you from the soul outward.

lay the law down. your money, your choice. it probably would be more responsible to spend it on the house, but i personally am not one to let anyone tell me how to spend my dough. no way.

either way,
good luck

Having been in the been there done that department, I'd say go for the Porsche. If you are happy with your house and current situation, go for it. On the average, a marriage will last approx. 15 years. A house can last you a lifetime, but the wife will get that when the marriage is over. A Porsche, however, will last you a lifetime if treated right and will never question whether you should buy another Porsche or not. In the end, the judge will give her the minivan and you the Porsche. Past experience. Take it for what it's worth. By the way, the Porsche still keeps me happy!!!!!!!!!!!! And from what I understand, they foreclosed on her house and she's happily living in the trailer park. Ain't life grand!!!!!

Not to mention you already have a P-car, I'd say the turbo can wait.

Don't buy the car. Enjoy your NA, it's a solid ride that gets looks and feels like a dream. Now's a good time to buy anything (cheap) but not when you have to take the money from somewhere else--like your friggin' house!

If you get the turbo, you gotta get collision, theft...$$$ With the NA, who gives a rat's ***?

Get the house first. Especially if you guys have all ready found one you like. The wife is happy, you've get a nice tax deduction, and a place to call your own. In a year or so, depending on how much your house appreciates, you can get a home equity loan to get the car. Then your interest should be tax deductable and at a decent rate. But beware, after you buy the place get ready to dig deep for all the stuff you'll end up doing that first year. In that respect a house is just like a Porsche.

Don't get too emotional about it. The really hard thing is to sell to 944 first, then start looking. If you do that, your wife will feel sorry for you, (or you'll drive her crazy) becuz you miss your ride soooo bad. If you're afraid to do that, stand pat.

But don't forget to live for today, life is short then you die.

Why are people so hung up about interest rates? You're just paying less to pay more! Property costs are higher than they've been since the mid 80s...sure, the rates are low, but the prices are high...wait until the stock market rebounds a bit, and people stop investing in property before you drop dime on a house...in the long run, the low rates on a house will still be pointless if you pay TOP market for your property, and what good does a low rate do you if you want to sell when property values are low and you can't get enough money out of your house...I'd buy the car now when car values are down, and get the house when the economy recovers and people aren't looking at property as the only valuable investment. Particularly if your credit is good, even if you look at amortization with low rates and high costs, you should be able to get a decent rate, and refinance if the economy takes another sh*t to get the lower rate and be in a better position with equity if you wait for overall costs to come down.

Boy there are a lot of responsible adults here tonight. Me, I am the master of making stupid decisions about cars. My avatar is the latest, I actually paid for it and still haven't picked it up 3 weeks later because of work.

BUY THE CAR!! She will forgive you, it is amazing what they forgive. They know who they married and they will continue to try to change you, fight back, be immature and go for the self gratification. (Those last words are a direct quote from my ex wife after I brought home a '73 RS, which I sold to pay for the divorce.)

Good luck!!

Buy the house. I passed up two cars, which I thought were the one. Of course when you are looking for a Porsche and find one you like, they are all the one. Luckily I waited and found one even better and closer to buy. Use the money for the house. You will not only be getting real estate equity, you will be building "wife acceptance" equity that can be cashed out once there is a significant amount built up.

Good luck. I feel your gut wrenching pain, I have been where you are at.

Oh mrmunky, in response to:

"lay the law down. your money, your choice. it probably would be more responsible to spend it on the house, but i personally am not one to let anyone tell me how to spend my dough. no way."

SHAME on you! What on earth do you think a WIFE is!? She is the significant other. You have delegated a wife to less than the MAN in a marriage, which is totally messed up!

With your attitude out here in California, and you pulled that stunt, she could not only take HALF of everything, but take the 951, to boot! The money and everything you both purchase is shared 50/50 between the two of you.

And I think she'd be right. What you said is some of the worst chauvinism I've seen in a long time, shame on you!

Instead of being a jerk with my boyfriend, (he knows what I really want) I have been giving him information on my choices, and what I have been looking at. We aren't married, but I make him part of the process. This has made him encourage me, and he doesn't mind me hanging out with you all online.

But if I acted like a spoiled rotten brat, made a point that I spent a few thousand on his car and fixing it up, I'd never get what I want, without making him miserable.

I think if the gentleman really wanted the 951, was willing to sacrifice his 944 (before or after purchasing the 951), and other sacrifices that would be worthwhile to please his wife, she would be on his side. One never needs to be hostile with thier loved one to obtain what they desire.
