Post Replacing antenna on 83 944

The motor in my power antenna is getting weak. Sometimes won't go down, sometimes won't go up. I just want to remove it and put in a manual one. Do I have to go under the wheel or can I just remove it from the top? Thanks in advance.

my 86 had an in windshield antenna that didnt pick up well so I poped a vw/968 style through the roof just behind the sunroof. It not only looks sweet I get more reception. I just picked up another one on ebay for my 84. I guess I am going to have to puddy over the electric antenna hole when I switch over for that one. (it stoped working anyway)

Getting ready to put one of the short swept antennas on my 83. I have a set of front fenders from an 86 that are going to replace the dinged ones before repaint.

The 83 doesn't have the removeable cover for the sunroof gear boxes because the sunroof is manual.

Looks like a challenge to remove the stretched vinyl liner and restretch it.
