There are a few of us running around. I'd also be interested in a get together/cruise sometime. I understand that the local PCA meets for breakfast in West Vancouver one Sunday each month, and then cruises up to Whistler. I still haven't joined the PCA, gotta do that, it's on the list...

Hmmmm, a Whistler run, eh?
It's too bad that I missed you guys.... I just spent 10 days in Whistler.
I have to admit that the driving there is like nothing I have ever seen. So much mountain scenery and Hwy. 99 sandwiched in between all those beautiful mountains. I would think that and coastal highway or road in BC would qualify as a top ten cruise.
Whistler is an extremely nice area. The Village they have built is incredible. They have certainly made it first class and a worldwide destination in anticipation of us getting the 2010 Winter Olympics.

You're not kidding. But at least it's off season right now! I recommend the Northstar located in the new village. Brand new condo style suites for a very low nightly rate.

No but I wish I did after visiting BEAUTIFUL British Columbia!

Have fun cruising you guys and keep the shiny side up on the paved surface!

The Sea to Sky is one of the most amazing drives, rain, shine or snow. I drive that road almost 100 times a year, and it never ceases to amaze me. Some of the best drives are 2AM late March, early April under a full moon with fresh snow on the mountain peaks. It's so bright that I have been able to drive in sections that almost look like early dusk. It's a spectacular sight in the Cheakamus Canyon north of Squamish under those conditions.

Check it out someday - and the skiing is still amazing at that time of year!

The sea to sky is the most awesome road I've ever been on. I've driven it off and on for years in many vehicles, but never in my 951.

Years ago the challenge was keeping the empty log trucks off your bumper, but of course, that was in my Chev. Those things could corner amazingly quickly, and I guess the drivers knew every inch.

I also used to run it on Ducati singles, but you would really pay for a mistake on that road, with the sheer drop offs and rock cuts.

Peckster - you're right on all counts. Just 3 weeks ago coming back from Whistler, 2 Superbikes passed me going over 140Klms just south of Function Junction (Whistler Industrial Park) and sure enough 30 minutes later there was a godawful traffic jam as a MediVac helicopter landed 10 cars in front of us at a traffic stop.

45 minutes later, a flat bed tow truck looms into view with, unfortunately 2 Superbikes on the deck including one very mangled bike.

A buddy happened to be travelling to Whistler and witnessed the whole episode - a group of fast bikes approached a decreasing radius turn - well marked with 60 klm signs - and one of the bikes failed to make the turn, went wide and into the concrete abutment just above a sheer cliff. My buddy is a dentist, and he said it did not look good for the rider.

Sadly, we see too many of these on the Sea to Sky now - in fact more accidents happen in great weather with perfect visibility on that road than in winter.

People take way too many chances to get 2 minutes ahead to Vancouver or Whistler.

Do not take these gatherings for granted. Up here in Saskatchewan I have not seen too many (any for that matter)barbeque's, wrenching parties etc. I'm looking at a 6 hr drive just to have brunch with P car owners.

Maybe when I retire.

Next breakfast run is Sept/07 6:00am meet at Caulfield exit#4 off the upper levels Starbucks coffee shop.
This is a great section of highway, no doubt, it is no more dangerous than any other, it's the drivers that cause the problems.
Most of the crashes have involved alcohol from weekend partiers or just plain stupidity.
I and many other of the BBC'ers drive this road regularly and never have a problem.
If you want a real thrill, carry on from Whistler towards Lilooet/Litton and you will find the road gets quiet and more twisty, taking you through some spectacular scenery from the meadow around Pemberton to the incredible climb up Mt Currie, reaching lofty elevations and spectacular views, then winding down the canyon with marvelous shear drops on one side and solid cliff faces on the other, what a rush!
It is about an 8 hr round trip but if you ever want to go and do a tour, just call me and I will gladly lead the way, anytime, day or night

PS, on behalf of Bob, the breakfast club leader, the monthly runs are not races and dangerous driving will not be tolerated.

Hey there Matt..
I wondered what had happened to you. We never did that Spring Cruise, did we?

I ended up going on a Whistler cruise of my own with a buddy of mine last month. I posted some great pics of my car on this board. I don't know how to link to it from here, but I just checked, you can find that post on pg 18. It's entitled "Great Photos of my 951 at Whistler" I agree regarding the Duffy Lake road...excellent section of twisties. There's a photo of my car taken next to Lilloet Lake. Beautiful drive.

Lance...
I'm out of the country until the end of September. I just applied for the PCA on-line, so should have a membership card by the time I get home. I'm totally keen on your October Sunday drive, I'll be back in Van by then.
