Ooohhhh.... I got you beat.

There is a very nice area of Hocking Hills in SE Ohio that you can rip through. Shortly after I got my car, my friend and I went out there to take some pics. On the way out, this '99 or '00 Caddy STS Northstar, complete with old man, blasts around me on a 2 lane road, in a corner.

I laughed until he slowed down to the point we were doing about 20. He gunned it back to 50 or so just to slow back down and do it again. Well, it was on. We carved up the roads for a good 15 minutes, and he hung pretty good most of the time. We lost sight of him just about the time I came into a hard right and almost lost it. I got it into a touch of gravel from a driveway and damn near soiled myself. Needless to say, I got out of it and continued on to take the pics.

On the way back, we saw not 1 set of marks, but 2, and a messed up guard rail. We can only guess what happened.

I don't do that much anymore.. I outgrew it at some point. Too costly for my life, and my car. I , however, have been known, and will be known, to cook rice and beat up on the good 'ole boys here and there. You just need to be smart when you pick your fights.

Ricer attitude can extend to Porsches too. I know of a youngun who bought a very sweet S2, bought $3k in wheels and tires the first day of ownership and proceeded to put it in a ditch that very night. Not only did he put it in a ditch racing a ricer, it was a ditch with the concrete pipe under a driveway which he hit with the left front of the car. Can any one say bent frame? Bent like a pretzel. Car totaled from stupidity. Airbags everywhere. Totaled and unrepairable! <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

I've gotten it a few times, but I've owned the car less than a month. When we're out cruising in my friend's Chevelle SS, there's constantly people trying to race us/ show off. The funniest time was when this Trans Am took off from a stoplight, and then rear-ended the slower car in front of him.

I guess he was watching us to make sure we were watching him.

Dale -

Nice to hear from you..welcome by the way.

I am on the East Side, one of the parks. We will have a GTG, my treat, before winter. I am hoping for late September, early October. A short road trip for most of us in the OH, KY, PA, WV areas. I would like to do a drive in Hocking Hills, most likely joined up with our Vee Dub brethren.

My 951 should be done by then, so it will be it's first to any GTG. Thought I would bring it back to life in a good way, with good friends.

Anyway, I would be great if you, or anyone else intrested, could make it.

Take care.

Surprisingly I have encountered nobody revving up on me at a stop light in southern california of all places. I admit that for my first few years of driving I would go out and try to prod some of the stupid ricers into races. At that time I was driving a '89 volvo 740GL with a whopping 114hp in a 3300lb brick. It was mostly to see which of the ricers were just complete posers.

From what I've found around here there are actually very few of these type of people around, or at least I never run into them anymore. As soon as I got the Porsche I decided that I don't really need to show off the car to the guys with the inferior rice burners. I just did my first autox a few weeks ago and will be doing another on the 7th down in San diego if any of you will be around. Anyways I figure that my car isn't really meant for the drag strip and as such should be used for the twisty backroads at a nice brisk pace.

The Porsche has drained the stupidity of youth right out of me

Hey Dale,

Have I seen you around town? What color is your 944? Did you go to the TajMaGarag event in Carillon Park a few weeks ago?

All of us Dayton/Cinci guys should have a big get-together soon, there seem to be a lot of us...

Hey gang, thanks for all the welcoming! Count me in for an OH GTG.

Tifo, mine is the white 944 going from Belmont to Fairborn and back each day (via the back roads). I had aweful black stone-guards until about a month ago (rubbing alcohol and a rag took off 19 years of gunk!). I was at Carillon, my car was parked in the lot, not on the grass - she needs a lot of work before I can "flaunt" her. What color is yours? What part of town do you drive? I notice EVERY P-car that comes within eye-sight, so I've probably seen you.

I had a rice boy try to 'engage' me on the highway: I was on the NY Thruway in the middle lane, and this young punk kid pulls up to me (at about 60mph) in a mildly riced out Civic Hatch. nd matches my speed. I hear him revving his engine.

I look over, and can clearly see at least three pimples on his face due to the freakin' indiglo lights on his dash. (No lie!)

I waved him on, and he accelerated MAD until the next car in front of him. Hoo boy: another "Porch" kill story for the Club SI boards! I can see the thread subject line: "Yo dawgs, I just wasted a Porch twin turbo: NO CONTEST." Right.

If I'm at a stoplight and one of these bozos wishes to race, I'll say yes: let's go to Lime Rock or Watkins Glen. After explaining that Lime Rock and The Glen are racetracks, I'll tell him it may be a problem, since he'd have to pass a technical inspection first, meaning his car can't shake apart!!
Well, I thought that would be funny....

Perry951, count me in on that GTG. Email me when you're ready to roll. I'm dying to see the Phoenix rise from the ashes!
Dales944, welcome to the board. I look forward to meeting you. I was at the Carrilon park thing too. Mine was the white 85.5 with white Fuch's wheels.
Tifo, let's get together this Sunday and drop the back of my car. I'll call you later today to set up a time.

I had some ******* drive into me years ago in Vancouver while he was dragging. Came off the lights opposite me and lost the back end, which slammed into the rear quarter of my car. F'n idiot. The good news was that I got a ton of money from the no-fault insurance and drove the car for years as is. People who are really into street dragging are often kids with no experience or just really bad drivers.

Ok, here's my riceboy story. I'm in the right lane at a stoplight and this Civic 4 door pulls up next to me in the left lane. Two guys in the car, standard backward baseball cap-slouched down so you can barely see over the dash types. This car is freakin' hilarious, stickers all over it, electric blue paint, body kit (still in white gelcoat), a rear wing you could carry 4X8's of plywood on, and best of all, 14" wheels and stock tires with plastic hubcaps! The driver is revving this thing like crazy, and the passenger yells over at me "You think that car of yours is bad?" I say to him "Does your mom know you put all that crap on her car? That really got them going. These morons were trying so hard to be hardasses that they never looked in their rearview mirror. There was a state trooper right behind them. The light turns green, they light up the tires and I take off real nice and easy. The state boy hits the lights AND siren and looked over at me and smiled as he pulled them over.
You gotta love it.

Seriously, I don't act that stupid!

I know my limits, and some of the time I take the challenges, and other times I don't. Everytime I get in a race, I burn the guy off the line, and let off before we get over 40mph, and call it a day. I only push over 40mph if the guy next to me actually is giving me a hardtime.
