Post r409 gas

I live in spain and have been told by an air con technician that i can top up my system with this gas. He says that it will mix with r12, and work fine any views on this chaps

Porsche tecnical bulletin recommended R134.
Don't know about the one you mentioned.

I do not think that R134 is mixable with R12. That's why you have to change gaskets, clean the system etc. in order to switch.

However I now there is a fairly new type of gas (must be the r409 you are referring to) that is completely mixable with the old R12 gas. The only downside is that it is much more expensive then the R134.

Duke,
you are right.I wouldn't mix any of these gases.It would need a new dryer as well and of course it would be wise to install new seals at the same time.

I have looked into this a little bit. I've found a few accounts of people who have used it, but it's still not certified for automotive use in the US. I've been too chicken to try it.

I do have a friend who has purchased some R406a which is also an R12 replacement. I haven't heard the results yet, but it is certified for automotive use.

You have to make sure that the refridgerant is not flamable. That would not be a good thing in a car.
