Is that because in addition to automotive electronics, Lucas also makes refridgerators???

I remember way back when in school. We were told that the country was switching to the metric system. We all in class moaned..."oh no". Then we promptly learned to convert. Now I work in a shop with American built machines with metric bolts. And Japanese machines with American bolts... Go figure.. Tool companies must like it though

Bitter is served at 'cellar temperature' a bit colder than room temp. Lager & Guinness are cold. We aren't animals you know.
Bitter & most other ales (not that I drink them anymore) are horrible cold (some might argue horrible at any temp), like red wine it needs to be warmer for the flavour to come through. Most mainstream American beers have to be drunk cold specifically to prevent the flavour being discernable.

Hold on, are you trying to fool us into believing the UK went metric without a fight? I thought there was in fact a whole guerrilla network who pulls down street signs that are metric because they make the UK seem too much like mainland Europe.

Where the hell did that come from?! The road signs are still in miles, there has not been an effort to change it yet. Mind you, nothing broadcast in the US about the UK would surprise me. Being able to catch all three Networks' evening news - I am sometimes astonished to discover what cities in the UK are referred to as parts of London. It's like saying 'the Los Angeles suburb of San Francisco was hit by an earthquake..."

The Communists did the metric conversion the best in Soviet Union - year of 1917, around October. They said - new alphabet, and metric sytem for everbody. If you don't like it, you are "the enemy of the pople". Siberia is your home now!
I am not saying it is the way, but it worked in Soviet Union almost overnight... Of course they did a lot of other crazy stuff... I have never heard of inches and pints growing up...
I agree with not trying to convert - think in relative distances: 1m is about on average length of step of a grown person. 1cm is 1/100th of that step, 1mm is 1/1000 of that step. 1 kilometer is 1000 steps like that... Distances are pretty easy...
Thanks

Oh, so the convertion went smoothly then
Anyway, I had read somewhere that an effort was being made to convert the street signs in the area around the Chunnel entrance to metric so that folks from mainland Europe would feel more at home. Apparently this did not go over very well. I'll see if I can find the article.
