I sent PEPARTS an email asking if the KT120-3 shoulder belts would work in a 1984 944 with lap belts, and what would need to be done to get it to fit. The only response I got back was "YES". That doesn't tell me much.

Joel,
My first contact with Peparts was also by E-mail, and the response was not great. In fact, I didn't even get a "yes". Once I called, they were very helpful. I spoke to a man named Chris. I don't think they do nearly as much with 944's as they do 914's and 911's, but Chris seemed to know the basics.
If you're interested, then give them a call.
By the way, does your car have the holes in the C-pillars? If so, then you should find that the diameter and thread are the same as those of the bolts that hold your lap belts in place.
