Any rattle can paint will chip MUCH easier than the paint that comes from the factory. And a darker wheel will show the chips (because what's under the paint is silver). Isn't there a spray-on "car bra"? I wonder if you could use that around your lug nuts.

Not really had any problem with chipping. It has been almost three months of daily driving over country roads now and I have had one rock chip on the rear passenger wheel. Since I used a thick coat of black primer it was not very noticeable at all, I did not see it until I was polishing the wheel. Since it is lacquer repairing chips is really simple. squirt sand and polish and you are done.

I never picked up a chip on painted wheels when driving. It's only when someone (including me) tries to take the wheels on and off.

I do have a few chips but that's my fault. I did not prime them correctly but the chips are mostly from when I remove them, I've never noticed a rock chip, they're all around the lugs.
