Cool Speedforce Supercharger - Car review

I have been following the development of the Speedforce Racing Supercharger kit since it first appeared on their website over a year ago, I was impressed by their claims and was interested in fitting one to my 944S2 road car. After seeing that the first UK car to be fitted with the kit was running at the Ninemeister trackday at Oulton Park I decided to go along and see what it was like.
When I arrived the car was out on the track and the first thing that struck me was the noise, the only think I can compare it to is a jet engine on full afterburner!! and by the look of the car it was going like one as well!! I went into the paddock and introduced myself to the cars owner Paul Riley, and after a short conversation he asked if I would like to take a passenger ride in the next session? Do bears sh*t in the woods? Is the pope a catholic? Needless to say I didn’t need asking twice. I was a little disappointed to hear Paul say that the car didn’t feel that fast, but I was more than a little concerned when his friend asked if I wanted a sick bag!! What was I letting myself in for!!
For those of you who are not familiar with the car, it is a 944 race car fitted with a supercharged 968 engine, the fitting and mapping was done by Ninemeister and the final dyno printout showed 350bhp and 325lb/ft, all from a bog standard 968 engine running 6psi boost.
After a lap to let the slicks warm up Paul started to go for it, the rest of the group mainly consisted of 964 and 993 RS Porsches with a Lotus Esprit Turbo and a Ferraris 355GTS thrown in, we passed all of these like they were in reverse, then the red mist set in as Paul began hunting down another race car which just happened to be an ex-Porsche 993RS Carrera cup car ( 350bhp , 1150Kg ) driven by another Porsche Open championship driver. After a few manic laps we were on him coming down the Avenue and into Cascades, coming out of Cascades in third Paul shifted into fourth and we flew past the 993 like he was standing still. This car is PHENOMINALY quick , it will pull strongly from 2500rpm ( strongly enough to get it sideways, on slicks, in third gear!! ) without a glitch right up until the redline, there are no flatspots, no surges of power, just a really smooth power delivery. Paul was right about the car not seeming fast, it was only when you realise that we were passing EVERYTHING on the track and we were now in fifth and it was still pulling like a train. The biggest compliment I can pay it is that if I hadn’t known the car was supercharged, I wouldn’t have been able to tell from the passenger seat , there is no noise from the blower and the power delivery is so smooth and linear that there are just no clues. This really would be the ultimate wolf in sheeps clothing for a road car, just what I’m after!! Guess I better get saving up!!
A big thanks to Paul for the ride ( nice driving by the way, keep that up and you’ll definately be winning races this year ) I almost wished I taken up the offer of the sick bag!!

A big congratulation to the following people:-

Tim Richards of Speed Force Racing who designed the kit.

Colin Belton, aka Ninemeister for the mapping and installation.

Good to hear some actual feed back other then the different folks with stakes in the different companies arguing! Thanks Andy! If you don't mind, ask your friend if he wants to write a product review for it for P-CarOnline.com for me. Thanks!

Wow that sounds impressive! I like to hear unbiased reviews of new products.
One question: First you said it sounded like a "jet engine on full afterburner", then you said there was "no noise from the blower". Which is it?

Maybe it's loud from outside the car, with the hood open, but quite from inside?

I wish I could afford a 968 engine + supercharger. Sideways, in third, on slicks...congrats SFR!

I wish someone would come to 944Fest in Ohio that has a Super-Charged 944 or 944/968. I'd love to see one in person or drive against one.

I looked into that route when I had the '86 but decided against it d/t lack of positive feed back and lack of companies offering it at the time I was looking @ them.

Again, nice to see that it's working.

Cool

You can't hear anything from inside the car, it's when I was watching from the side of the track it sounded like a jet engine. Even when the car is ticking over it is very quiet on the outside.

Cool

Sorry Sandoval, I forgot about you, congrats for your patience but I'm sure the wait was worth it. I saw the pics you posted the other day and I must say the car looks AWESOME. Well done on the build, the attention to detail looks incredible.

i've been doing a bit of hunting as far as engine replacements go, but does anyhow have a rough idea on how much the above package of a 968 engine plus an SC would cost?
