Post Slow Shifting

Hey guys, my S2 has 158K miles on it right now and I have only had it for about 700 miles. One thing that I do notice is the 1st to 2nd shift is kinda slow. I dont abuse the car or try to speed shift at all, but sometimes I would just like to get a quicker shift out of it, ya know? I have gone ahead and switched the tranny oil to AMSOIL (sp*) and I do notice a difference in it, but its still not as crisp as all the other gears are. The car is in great shape and I know it hasnt been abused ever in its lifetime before I became the owner, but who knows, the synchros could be ending their 158K mile life. any suggestions on what I should do or check for would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot guys, you have been so much help to me during the first month or so I have had the car, it means a lot.

Thanks,

Certainly possible, but I really like giving people an avenue of hope...

Dustin, when was the last time your clutch fluid was flushed? Do you have records for that or replacement of the clutch master or slave? If you're not getting complete clutch disengagement that could contribute to your shifting problem. Is warm shifting any different from cold shifting?

Hey all, The problem does get better after a few minutes of driving, but its becoming less of a difference as the miles tick on. The clutch was replaced at 132K and I dont believe it has been bled since. Should I do that now? Thanks again everyone!

My first-second is the same way..my car has the tranny out of an '86 Turbo but it's pretty much the same way in my brother's '84 NA.

It seems to require two motions to get it into second instead of one smooth shift like all the other gears. It's been the same way in all the 944s I've driven though so I thought it was normal. Is it not supposed to be like that?
