pulley upgrades from broadfoot racing
hey guys,
i recently came across an ad for aluminum pulleys by broadfoot racing in excellence. if i remember correctly, they make a crank pulley, altenator, a/c, and 1 or 2 others...anyone using them? they claim to reduce the load on corresponding parts and help with longevity, and of course there is going to be less rotating mass.what do you think? would it be a worthwhile upgrade to our cars when we have the front end tore down for new belts and h2o pump?

I have them on my 944 track cars. But he also built the engines. Probably more of a worthwhile upgrade on track cars as they spend more time in the upper RPM. I think the logic is to reduce parsitic losses from the alternator and other belt driven items.
Per his web page.
Power Pulley's
924S, 944, 944 Turbo, 968
Crank Pulley $165
Alternator Pulley $95
Power Steering Pulley $75
Bolt on Power and save expensive components. CNC Machined from Billet Aluminum and Hard Anodized in Blue.
If you want to contact Broadfoot you do best to call and leave a message or email to albertgt3@aol.com .

Hi Jason, I think the UDPs (under-drive pulleys) are totally worthwhile, but a total pain to put on. Part of my anguish was due to the three trips to Sears, Pep Boys and Kragen (for 24-mm deep socket for crank pulley, 10-mm Allen socket for one of the starter bolts, and a new p/s belt). Anyhoo, seven hours of knuckle-busting and they're on!! (Broke a 1/2-in.-drive extension breaking that dang crankshaft bolt loose!!!!)
Got mine from Paragon (about $300 for a/c, crank and p/s pulleys, plus a p/s belt that was just_a_little too small. Results? Quicker throttle response throughout the rev range, and the seat-o'-pants accelerometer tells me she pulls a little harder (wish I had back-to-back chassis dyno runs to tell for sure). The pulleys are really nicely machined, and blue-anodized and weigh a lot less than the stock metal pulleys...I was really surprised at how much the stock alternator pulley weighed (machined from depleted uranium?).

thanks for the info guys,
doug, you mentioned you had a problem with a slightly too small belt...was this due to incorrect machining of the pulley or a bad belt? i would hope the pulleys are spec'd to use OEM belts!
thanks again!

I have crank and alternator underdrive pulleys on my car. I had the crank pulley installed when I had the belts done, which cost nothing extra since they had to replace the oil seal. I don't have air or power steering on my car anymore.
I thought I could feel a difference, though it maybe be because I lost weight too
I think if anything it will reduce wear on the alternator because it spins more slowly now.

I bought the crank and power steering pullies from Broadfoot. I replaced my pullies because no matter how I tightened the power steering belt it would squeel.
Don't know if they invreased HP or not but I do like them.
