Piston Skirt Wear
Couple of questions regarding re-use of pistons...
What amount of skirt coating wear is allowable when re-using stock pistons from a Turbo. I have several different pistons sets and all show some signs of wear along the sides of the skirts.
Were the pistons coated from the factory to be compatible with the Alusil, and if so, what is the coating?
What else should be checked on the pistons before re-suing them?
Obviously, I will have the crank, rods, and pistons balanced before installation, and everything will have new rings and bearings. The rods will also be checked over. Otherwise, what specifically needs to be checked when installing used rods and pistons?
Thanks guys

You shouldn't need to balance. Check the taper on the pistons, if the taper is to great the coating don't matter. You need the use a mic. to check for taper and check to see how rounnd they are. Also check on the bore taper plus see how round the bore is. If it's out of round it will not seal the same with taper.

I read that the pistons were iron sprayed. Don't know exactly what the process was. I have seen advertisements in the back of Excellence for coating pistons for Alusil bores.
