Well as long as we are in the process of recomendations.....I live in the Glendale/La Canada area. Can anyone recommend someone near me for 944 work? My last mechanic was in Santa Monica when I lived on the web site and he was very good (German Auto Technic, 310 828-6004..ask for Gunter)but man the logistics are off the scope.

I need minor stuff on my mount and need someone near me. Any help, much appreciated.

horrido-

Kellyk, who posted the shops from the Porsche Owners Club above, put me onto checking out their site, Porsche Owners Club

You can navigate there to a fairly long list of "Authorized Tech Stations." They don't say how a shop achieves that status, but it might be a good starting point for you.

Thumbs up

Thanks Grant,
I updated my info.

Pete & Paul's Porsche Shop is closest to me so I may drive by there to check them out. Anyone know anything about these guys?

John Dayton Enterprises is closer than Circle and no doubt less expensive.

stupenal - I will have to call my brother (with the M3... well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me), he bought a old Mercedes for my nephew and had it fixed up at that shop before the kid went off to collage.

Whatever you do, DO NOT GO TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP NEXT DOOR! A-LINE TRANSMISSION! I GOT ROYALLY RHEEMED BY THOSE THIEVES!
DANGER! DANGER! STAY AWAY!

But I'm not bitter.

that's A-LINE TRANSMISSION IN Wilmington,CA. on Anaheim. They are lying ba$tards that will charge you up the a$$ and screw up your car!

I feel better now.

Horrido,
Try "Strictly German" on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena. 2435 East Colorado Blvd 626/440-1242.

Ask for "Duran" and tell him Dan with the red 944 sent you. His rate is $60/hr and he's good. At least he always has been for me. I[ve had him do a lot of work. Private email me if you want more info.
P.S. Avoid Scientific Automotive also in Pasadena if anyone recommends them. They DO NOT work on watercooled Porsches, don't know our cars and look down their noses at anything not a 911.

Most of the POC shops are pretty reliable. Our club is a pretty close-knit group mainly from S. California and if anyone has a bad reputation it gets around quick. If you go to a POC shop, stop and talk to the owner about the POC and his relationship with the club. Club members and those interested in joining definitly get special treatment and are at a much less risk of getting ripped-off.

If you can drive a little bit south, the best 951/944 shop around is Vision Motorsports in Laguna Hills. Dwain has the reputation for building some of the fastest and reliable 951's around.

Quick update:

I finally spoke with John Dayton, whose correct number is 562.424.0024

Kellyk, he thanks you for the referral and you were certainly right that mentioning POC gets a spark of recognition. (Hope you didn't take my comment about not knowing how an Authorized Shop gets that status was a criticism - I was assuming the listing was a near-endorsement until proven otherwise.)

John was completely candid with me that his primary expertise is air-cooled and he offered to try getting back to me with a nearby referral on the 968. Always a good sign when a guy is upfront about things, even if it does mean turning away business.

He has owned his own 924 and done some work on 944's - there was one at his shop when I drove by yesterday. So Scott, you might still end up giving him a holler.
