From our local PCA Chapter. Tom documented the progress in several reports that were included in the monthly "The Spiel" newsletter we have. Great reading on the restoration of a 1986 951
Enjoy!!

Jaime - I'm sure his resto is an inspiration for you - given the time, $$ and effort you've put into your car!
I enjoyed all of the story up to the painting part. I winced when reading that his homemade spray booth yielded little more than satisfactory results - ouch!

It is. Also the many posts here from folks like Perry, Ribs, Wayne, and many others that have taken similar tasks on their own. What I have come to realize is that patience is the key to all this.
When I pulled the engine out I thought, hey! out change stuff, mount back, in and done... well not quite... some of the stuff asks for 2 to 12 days of sitting before starting the engine (Loctite and related stuff).
Then you have the parts that are not available and take at least another week to get in.
And the parts that require some machining or welding (to save on buying new ones).
The parts that break due to stupid mistakes on my end.
Then you clean/paint parts and it look so nice that when you get ready to install them, and look at the state of the other parts, you end up cleaning, painting, and polishing the whole engine...
Or the full credit cards that have to wait a few months to lower them so they can get full again from more parts ordered (right Paragon?
)
Anyhow, this toast goes to all the nut heads that have inspired me in getting into so much troubles with the wife for doing what I like most; working in my cars and learning what it takes to give a beautiful car, like the 951, the TLC that it deserves.
Salud! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> Cheers!
