Question 968 Speedometer wierdness..... need some help....

Speeding is illegal That said... in the course of getting a speeding ticket I realized my speedometer was a bit off. Lucky for me I wasn't going as fast as I thought.... I did a clocked run on my way home that night a found out that when my speedo reads 60, I'm actually doing 54. I am pretty sure that the car came with the 17 inch weels it has on it now, the option code say it did. The only difference is that I went a little bit wider on my new tire 235 front 265 rear instead of the 225 and 255. I'm not a math wiz but I can't believe this is causing what I am seeing!! Could a worn down gear cause this? Any ideas....???

I don't think the width of the wheel has anything to do with the speed shown in the speedo but the diameter of it does.
