Has anyone got a solution for the key/tailight, interference issue. I just recently replaced my hatch with a 968 type and I need to open it several times a day. I cut a key head in half and it does work but it's difficult. I have new struts and understand they will allow the hatch to open with the electric motor. I am hesitant to install them for fear of glass seperation. Any ideas would be appreciated. TIA

Wondering about this myself. Running it without the third brake light seemed 'unfinished' to me. I got annoyed enough to pull off my 968 hatch and am contemplating selling it unless new technology presents itself.

I wish porsche had kept the 3rd tailight on the top in its original location. There its more visible and inside, protected from the weather. I wonder what it would require to convert it back, maybe I will check that concept. I just had the glass tinted and hate to start cutting it for access of the light.

Keyless entry. I installed a bulldog system on my 968 in a matter of maybee 45 minutes, since all the wires are there near the central locking computer. I would imagine a later 944 or S2would have that part of the harness as well. Even if it didn't, I'd bet a car stereo shop could hook you up.

I showed my problem to a locksmith today. To do what I wanted he suggested having a brass extension braised to a seperate key. I would have to cut off the key head and form a piece of brass that would clear the tail light. I am going to look into removing my old tail light and installing it onto the hatch first.
If u have removed the hatch light assembly, I would appreciate some instruction.

The third brake light is mounted with just two screws. Electrical contacts into the light are through the screws themselves. Easy-Peasy to remove.
As for glass separation, it's inevitable, whether your hatch struts are weak or not. With the keyless entry, you can press the little button on the fob while lifting the hatch.

That's just stuck on with double-sided tape. Not quite Easy-Peasy, but not too difficult to remove. Peel it off and get in there with a razor scraper to clean it up.

Yeah, 944s should use the 90-91 S2 hatch, not the 968 hatch. Or, if you have a 968 hatch, buy the S2 trim pieces for the rear, and if you still want a 3rd brake light, get a late 944 3rd brake light for the inside top.
