Split rears have covers too- mine was fabric- I'm pretty sure they were factory. It's a hanging style cover that has chords coming out of 4 corners- the two forward ones stick into the rear side panels (that surround the 1/4 windows). The rear two chords clip onto the hatch, so the cover raises & lowers when you lift the hatch OR can be attached at the base, so it will remain covered until you want to lift it manually.
Lots of ways to do it- can even buy a new one outright, but I think they run close to $200. They don't break like the roll-out style, though. I had mine recovered w/a boating fabric & I'm pretty happy w/it. I can elaborate if anyone needs...

I found a used one on EBay -- I haven't gotten it yet but the guy says the the spring that pulls the covers to roll up inside is rather weak. He wanted $60 -- as I couldn't find any anywhere I bought it. Then immediately after I did he listed a perfectly good one for $200. I wished I could have gotten that one.
I emailed him to ask if we could exchange but he had already sent out the first one.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix the spring? Is it fixable?

If you really want it, offer to pay for the S&H- I mean, it shouldn't hurt him- you pay to get the $60 one back to him & then pay the $140 dif + S&H to get the new one TO you & you should be able to work it out- I do the IceShark battery cable stuff all the time & I've done things like that before to make people happy- I've even eaten part of the S&H in some cases.
The prob is, that all of the springs will die eventualy- it will weaken- then it's either fix or throw away. But I do know of people here who've claimed to have been able to fix them- I'll send an e-mail to one of those people & see if he was successful a long time ago w/one...

Got your PM -- thanks for the info. The car only has 42 K on it now but I will definitely keep this in mind.

I contacted my friend, who recently tried to fix a roll-out style. Unfortunately, he never actually got his working. I'm pretty sure that style can be used on split rears, but I'm not sure how it would be affected if/when you tried to fold just one seat down. I have one more friend to ask about it all & hopefully can let you know something tommorrow...
That said, the hanging style might be your best bet. If you're at all interested, I'll snap some pics for you...? I'm pretty sure you could get one for under $20 from any used parts dealer (maybe George B). I'll give you more details if you're interested, but you would not believe how simple it really is...
I had mine recovered for $50 (labor & materials) & then again, for $90- this was better, lightweight, outdoor (boating) fabric. I only had to redo mine b/c the first time, I used a thick, white vinyl. I was planning to change my INT color, but then decided not to. The vinyl was too heavy, so it sagged too much. Live & learn... Anyway, if you'd like to see how these work, I'll shoot some pics for you tommorrow...
