Brought my new '88 944 home, need some help
Got this car from a mechanic's lein, the PO did about $7K worth of work to it even added a $2K exhaust. Had to haul her home, the mechanics shop said that it was running great but that one of the plug wires was shorting out and it won't crank now. This is my first 944, where should I start to troubleshoot?

A great starting place (and future reference) is :

A shorting plug wire should not stop it from cranking.

Hello, I have been right where you are right now, Knowing Nothing about the 944 I bought, so take this as good advice. Another way to find the answer to your problems is to use the "SEARCH" tool at the top of any forum page you use. Just type in Key Words like, " NO START", "NO SPARK", etc., also check out the "TECH INFO". Check out Pelican Parts.com and 944online.com both are full of information and members will help you with questions. Read thru all of clarks garage. com before asking questions. That is your first classroom assignment. Do your research first before asking questions, so you know what to ask and what the members are telling what to do. Some members come off as sounding harsh or abrupt if they feel you have not tried to find answers for yourself. Buy a good set of metric tools as it will save you money, 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" sockets, ratchets and extensions plus open and box end wrenches. Try and find other Porsche owners in your area. Most of us are willing to help bend wrenches with others doing a job.
Cheers,
Larry

Here is a short cut to a great "No Start Checklist".

I refer back to this checklist whenever I have a no start condition.

These are all great but I'm not getting anything with the key turned. New battery but no turnover or even power when in ACC position. The PO had this stored in a storage place for a while and it looks like mice had some of the wiring for lunch but the mechanic said it still fired up and was driven to the shop.

Since you say that you are not getting power when the key is in the ACC position also, I am wondering if you are getting power to anything at all? Do the interior lights come on when you open the door? Maybe you can try a simple test to see if you have any power like turning on the parking lights or hazards.
Hope you figure this out,
-Jeff.

No power on anything right now, battery is new, I bought it and it's fully charged via charger. No lights, no hazards, nothing. Oh and I paid $1K for it and the extra new parts that were in the back of the car.
