Anyone have any clue as to what this red marking on the speedo indicates? Nothing in the manual mentions it. The tach red mark is obvious, but what's this for?
I'm dying of curiosity!!!!

That's probably true- I've never seen the speedo of a Canadian 951- or paid attention if I have anyway- but, in the US, a few years ago, there were many cars that had a special mark at 55mph, as THAT was the standard speed limit for US Interstates for a LONG time- I THINK it started in the early 70's- it HAD been something like 70mph or 75mph- maybe was state controlled- THEN it became federally mandated 55mph- you know- "...Arrive Alive, Drive 55..." So somewhere in there- maybe the Carter administration(?) they started adding a RED mark w/55mph printed beside it- usually crammed in there b/t 50 & 60, or whatever- even if the #'s jumped 20's. Anyway, sorry for the long response, but I'll bet it's something like that, except that 50-60KM/hr is pretty damn slow, so it must be inner city or something...

Olli has it. Most of the towns have 50Kph painted on the road when you enter a village. If it has small roads or lots of kids then they will take it down to 30Kph or 18Mph. Better known as super slow! It is one of those really low second gear keep tappin the brakes or first gear whining it out. Take your pick.

Thanks for the input!
The city speed warning seems to make sense. It's usually between 50-60km/hr in Canada as well.
I was thinking there might be some mysterious technical reason, like the rpm redline.
(maybe someone out there still has the secret reason) <img src="graemlins/icon107.gif" border="0" alt="[icon107]" />
