I don't know what auto parts stores you have out there but the best stuff I have ever used is made by a company called "Next Dimension" professional strength glass cleaner. It's a spray can and it only costs about $1.98. It works better than anything else I ever tried, (And I've tried alot, I hate dirty glass) I get it at my local Autozone.

"Sprayway" - $5 a can at Restoration Hardware.

Rumor has it that you can find Sprayway at Wal-Mart (I have not seen it there yet, though.) It's good stuff!

Auto Glym Car Glass Polish.

I don't know if you can get it in the US, but it is the absolute best stuff I have ever used. It looks like liquid wax and gets buffed off when dry. Film inside and out is cut through immediately with zero streaking. In the winter it is good because it reduces condensation inside the car.

I think it matters more what you use to dry it with. I found that newspaper is the best!

Be careful with newspaper, small fragments of metal can get pressed into the surface during the printing process. I have scratched glass with it before.

Obviously you'll settle for anything. Windex sucks. I'll bet you use windex and paper towels on your paint too...

Windex is GHEY....
It streaks horribly...

It's a good thing I don't mind streaks that much...but I will definetely try some of the suggested chemicals..

Supposedly anything with ammonia (eg, Windex) has fumes that make the factory adhesive glue in the car less sticky, so your dash parts will start peeling. I think that's the danger, at least.

Ditto on the metal in the newspaper. I've never heard that either. I too believe that anything consisting of a mixture of ammonia and water (not too much ammonia though) will work just fine. I also agree that what you wipe it up with is just as important if not more important that what you use. In my opinion most (not all) cleaners are a basic make-up of water and ammonia and it's what you use to wipe it up with that causes it not to have streaks. Almost anything clothe ie. cotton will leave streeks or lint on the glass, paper doesn't do that. At least in my experience it doesnt'. It's also very cheap :-0

Just my .02 worth.
