Default Ideas on extending the gear shift lever...

I'm thinking about trying to extend the gear shift lever upward so that it's closer to the steering wheel.
I have a short shift kit on it and want the gear shift closer to my hand ala the Carrera GT. Three to six inches would be great.
This is for my racecar but I don't want it to look like a POS.
Anyone tried this?

Just making the lever longer will increase the throw. So you may be defeating any gain of putting it closer to your hand. (might move your hand 8" less to get to the lever, but each throw might be 8" longer by the time you get it up near your hand)

Unless, you can find a way to move the pivot point up pretty high.
