Post Muffler options

I know this has been done a couple times, but I thought maybe there'd be some updates or some new guys who could contribute...Anyway, what are some good aftermarket mufflers that don't sound ricey and don't sap performance? Also, to actually gain performace, do you need headers and catbacks and such, or can a muffler alone give you a little bit?

From what I have gathered, your biggest bang for the buck with exhaust mods will be from a test pipe in place of your cat. The stock muffler is a straight through design, so is already pretty free flowing. Replacing the muffler with a straight pipe is surprisingly not THAT loud. The turbo absorbs a lot of the sound energy. It doesn't sound that great off idle, but everywhere else it sounds good. I don't have first hand experience with other mufflers, but I've heard a lot of people use 16" Sportsman's as a cost effective replacement.
