Holy hell I'm addicted to this game. Best driving game I've ever played (with killer cars...Carrera GT, Veyron, etc...) - so immersive.
And, you can play it pretty well with just a joystick if you have to.
Unfortunately though - no 951's.
(GT2, GT3, Carrera GT and Cayman S)

A lot of celebrities have been dying lately. Or that's the thought that occurred to me last night. Then I realized that I'm actually getting older at the same time as all these celebrities, and instead of going through some kind of heightened schedule of celebrity deaths, maybe this is just how it's going to be from now on. It makes sense that as you get older more of the people you've grown up watching will be dying. I mean, think about the old Nick at Night lineup. The casts from Leave it to Beaver, Get Smart, Green Acres, and Bewitched must be getting pretty old. Then after they're gone we'll be looking at Growing Pains, Diff'rent Strokes, Perfect Strangers, and The Facts of Life. Pretty soon obituaries will takeover the entire newspaper, if newspapers are even still around in the coming decades. Hopefully I either go senile or lay waste to enough brain cells that I don't have to remember and mourn all these people.

Man, i have the game too and i have been up since 3 last night playing it.
The thing is, there are so many reviews, so its unfortunate that 1 person can go and read a review that degrades it in a certain way, and that reader will then be satisfied enough to go around and tell OTHER people that it sucks. Whatever, that's the general public for ya.
So far, from what i have read in the mixture of reviews, the guys who are actually appreciative of a finally decent NFS are saying everything right. Its not the MOST realistic thing in the world, and while there are rumors that it is more realistic then Rfactor or GTR2, its unfortunately not in terms of physics. What IS amazing, and id highly recommend you do this choinga!, get a Logitech G25.
When i first started up the game i was AMAZED and for a while i thought it was the most realistic game ever, but of course that was only due to how well the wheel responds to the car going around the track. The car - to - track physics aren't the most realistic in the world like i was saying, but its DEFINITELY enjoyable with their amazing incar camera system, because you get the sensation of how fast your going, your shifting, your acceleration/braking, etc. and this game EXCELS at that.
And yes, the graphics are decent to me even at Medium across the board. Try to filter the haters, and if your a racing sim fan like me with a wheel, you will have to give NFS Shift a chance.

Id give it a chance but im not gonna buy it or rent it.
I used to think gran turismo 4 was really realistic until I played forza. Now im convinced forza 3 will just be too good so I cant bring myself to bother with a NFS game. They all sucked since Porsche Unleashed. I enjoyed the underground series but i was like 14.
